Hectic Times

Setbacks

This week, we’ve been struggling to complete as much of our final workload as possible, so that we can wrap up the production phase smoothly by next week, or perhaps the week after. Content is still a little limited with all other assignments standing in our way, but tasks are being completed little by little, and we now have almost everything required to build a set of performant and entertaining levels.

Technical updates

This version of the build features a small variety of bug fixes, additions to the menus, as well as polishing up some other mechanics that we will mention further down.

As it turns out, implementing the animations and ensuring that the particles run smoothly has been more of a challenge than we initially predicted. Therefore, there is not a huge amount of progress that might be visible in this update – we will be sure to fix that by next week.

Graphical updates

Instead of having capsules, we now have half of the working animations so that we can display the character models properly. A particle effect has been added as well, to add to the comical style of the running.

More assets are also being completed, so that the scenery will be more varied and enjoyable to play through. This includes the main menu visuals, although there is still a fair bit of work to be done in regards to the actual polishing. This goes for most of our textures, so we hope to bring a smoother and better-looking result soon.

To make the transition into the game easier for all new players, we’re also adding a small tutorial at the beginning, featuring funky little sketches in the background. These will be changed every so slightly once we go into polish phase, and will be added in a level of their own.

Wrapping up production soon

As another difficult week has just ended, we have to cut this blog post short, as there is not much else to report. It’s just a little longer until the finish line, and until we can actually begin combining our assets into better levels. These may change in difficulty, and some textures may change drastically as well – we hope for your continued support and patience.

Thank you for following the development of Trash Travellers!
